Tanzania is a country in East Africa bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north, Rwanda, Burundi and the Demographic Republic of the Congo to the west and Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique to the south. The countrys eastern border lies on the Indian Ocean. The name Tanzania derives from the names of the two states Tanganyika and Zanzibar that united in 1964 to form the United Republic of Tanzania. Tanzania is one of the oldest known inhabited areas on Earth; fossil remains of humans and pre-human hominids have been found dating back over two million years. The country contains many large and ecologically significant wildlife parks, including the famous Ngorongoro Crater, which has the highest concentration of wildlife in Africa. Serengeti National Park in the north, where a million - strong herd of wildebeest trammel the seemingly endless plains. Ruaha with its sublime riverine setting, is worth as much time as you can give. Also the vast, baobab-studded expansed of the Selous Game Reserve.
