#Tapping Tip: What Are You Most Overwhelmed About? Talk and Tap Those new to #EFT often get stuck with the “what to say” part of tapping. They complain that they don’t know if they’re doing it right and don’t know what language to use. One fun and easy way to get around the question of “what to say” is to simply talk in conversational language about your issue while tapping through the points. Rather than following the exact tapping protocol, you can tap the sequence while talking freely about the topic causing you distress. For example, imagine you are on the phone with a friend and you are telling her about the awful day you had at work. You can just start tapping, right there on the phone! She doesn’t need to know what you’re doing. As you vent to her, you’re calming your body and processing the emotions through tapping. You’re also getting all the benefits of tapping without having to create a particular script. There’s nothing wrong with venting, letting off a little steam. The problem comes when you find yourself venting about the same thing over and over again, with no change and no resolution. Add tapping to the venting, and a few things will happen: a. You’ll let go of the story much faster. b. You’ll begin to come to new awareness about the issue. c. You’ll naturally come up with creative solutions. I’ve had many people tell me that there’s no solution to a particular situation. I nod and ask them to tap while telling me about their stress, or anger, or sadness. More often than not, they discover potential solutions they didn’t even believe existed, right there in real time! So feel free to talk, rant and rave, get it all out—just tap at the same time. You’ll see how different it feels!
