Taraba guber: Jonathan, Umar in closed door meeting; President Goodluck Jonathan and Taraba State former Acting Governor Garba Umar yesterday met behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Garba is contesting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket with a former Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Mr Darius Ishaku Although Umar did not address journalists after his two-hour meeting with the president, a source said the discussion centred on Monday’s botched gubernatorial primaries of the PDP in Taraba State. The source quoted the president as assuring Umar that he remained committed to ensuring a level playing ground for all the aspirants. The primary election was postponed on Monday following what the state chairman of the PDP, Victor Kona, called the inability of the party’s National Working Committee members to resolve some internal electoral procedures for the state. Our correspondent reports that this was the first time Umar would be sighted at the Presidential Villa after the Supreme Court sacked him on November 21 as acting gov and ordered the reinstatement of Abubakar Danladi, a former deputy government who was impeached before Umar took over. Danladi, the first deputy to Governor Danbaba Suntai, was impeached before Suntai fell sick after a plane crash. Umar was consequently appointed deputy governor after Danladi’s impeachment and became acting governor sequel to Suntai’s protracted illness. Follow Us On Twitter @Taraba_In_Focus
