TarraWarra Estate 2012 Chardonnay Made with the same approach - TopicsExpress

TarraWarra Estate 2012 Chardonnay Made with the same approach as the Reserve wine, the differences in this wine result from some tank fermentation as well as a selection of different barrels and fruit parcels than those used to make the Reserve Chardonnay. The wine has grapefruit and lemon zest aromas with underlying notes of cashew nuts. The palate has a creamy yet fine texture derived from 10 months on lees and a lovely drive with persistence of flavour. With oak and tank maturation, the wine shows an elegant complexity with appealing freshness. Site selection: Fruit for the Estate wine was sourced from 10-27 year-old vines across various blocks. The TarraWarra Estate vineyard has a northerly aspect across high sloping hill-sides, which provides good drainage and air circulation. The grapes are all hand harvested at approximately seven tonnes per hectare. Vintage notes: The 2012 vintage was relatively warm in comparison to 2011. The ideal conditions allowed us to pick the Chardonnay at optimum flavour development and in excellent condition. This allows us to avoid the use of acid and fining agents in making the wine.
