Teach de hIde / Clorina House chaos in Roscommon Town. Below are two replies which I have received from the overall manager of mental health services in Galway/Roscommon, Ms. Catherine Cunningham. These responses are at variance with what service users & staff are telling me. I don’t care who is right or wrong, but the very least that clients are entitled to is clear unambiguous information, and that has not happened in this case. I’m going to raise this issue directly with the Minister and soon as I have that reply or any further information, I’ll post it online To: Denis Naughten Cc: Date: 03/06/2014 12:17 Subject: Query from Deputy Denis Naughten re Teach de hIde Dear Deputy Naughten, I acknowledge receipt of your query in relation to Teach De Hide. I can advise you that Teach De Hide is not closing. This day centre is relocating to the Primary Care Building which is a new and more appropriate building that provides a more integrated approach for our service users. At present, and for some time the service users at teach De Hide have been attending the Day Hospital in the Primary Care Building to participate in group activities as part of their individual care. The Teach De Hide building will be developed into a service for Psychiatry of Later Life and will continue to be used by the HSE to provide local services. These changes are to provide a more appropriate client centered service. Clients have historically attended the Day Hospital, the Day Centre and Clorina House simultaneously as per their individual care and treatment plan prescribed by the Multi-disciplinary Team. There is nothing new with this practice. I trust this answers your concerns. Thanking you. Kind Regards Catherine Cunningham, Area Manager,Galway & Roscommon PCCC Services, Date: 11/03/2014 16:47 Subject: Clorina House/ Teach de hIde. Dear Deputy Naughton, I acknowledge receipt of your correspondence dated 7/3/14 and thank you for same. At present there are no discussions taking place in relation to service reductions in either Day Centres or Training Centres. It is difficult to understand where this mis-communication originates from. The patient advocate has met with Service users in Teach dHide on several occasions, and will continue to meet and reassure them, and answer their questions in relation to service provision. We will continue to work with the patient advocate and service users to reassure them, and answer their concerns in relation to the recent media coverage. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance Yours sincerely Catherine Cunningham, Area Manager,Galway & Roscommon PCCC Services,
