Teacher HELPLINE! Dale writes: I would love input from other teachers. My public school insists that all kindergarten students move on to first grade—with little regard to how ready they are to handle the fast paced, rigorous Common Core reading & math they will face. I would love to hear from teachers who work at schools with transitional type class (sometimes calledTransitional Kindergarten or Prefirst) with some first grade material, but focusing on the mastery of important kindergarten skills. How does it work? Do parents like it? Do these student go on to first or second grade. Do these take first grade tests throughout the year? Thanks so much!
