Teacher HELPLINE! Toni writes: Over the past five years, Ive taught in a self-contained upper elementary classroom. Next year my school (preK-8) is restructuring the upper grades so that 5-8 will follow a more traditional middle school model by having students switch classes. My position is changing from 5th grade classroom teacher to middle level math teacher, where I will be teacher one class each of 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math. Im looking for some advice to help both student and myself with this transition. What are some important tips to keep in mind about teaching middle school? Thanks!
