Teacher Nabbed Over Abduction of Pupils Police in Ebonyi State have arrested a 27-year-old teacher for allegedly kidnapping two pupils from the Imperial International School in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. The suspect, Mr Kingson Sunday Asiegbu, was nabbed in his home town, Effium in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State with the two children. Briefing newsmen at the commands headquarters in Abakaliki, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Chris Anyanwu, said the teacher took advantage of his familiarity with the family of the victims to perpetrate the crime. The victims, nine-year-old Toluwalipe Kosoko Philips and his brother Omodolapo, who is seven years old, are pupils of Imperial International School, Mulipa in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, where the teacher works. The incident occurred on July 8, 2014, and he was arrested following a tip off, he said. Narrating their ordeal, parents of the victims, Mr Kosoko Ademola Philips and his wife Abiola, said they were shocked when the teacher who is a friend of the family, sent them threat messages and demanded ransom for the release of the children. They said following receipt of the messages, they alerted security agencies who worked with network providers to track the suspect who they had already paid N150,000 as ransom. He has been a close friend of the family for years and his earlier intention was for two of my kids to spend holiday in his home town, but the story changed few days after they arrived here, he said. Mr Anyanwu, who urged parents to be wary of people they entrust the care of their children, said police also arrested another teacher in Ugwulangwu in Ohaozara, Mr Johnson Ugwu, into whose account the ransom was paid. He added that the matter would be transferred to Ogun State for further investigation. Meanwhile, the suspect, Mr Asiegbu has confessed to the crime but Mr. Ugwu denied any involvement.
