Teachers, students charged to key into modern global education Teachers and students in Abia State have been charged to key into modern global education that is technology driven and very intensive in all aspects. The state governor Chief T.A. Orji who gave this charge at the launching of the Educational Activities and Presentation of Awards organized by the Ministry of education to mark the 2013 Educational Activities week in Umuahia noted that the launch is to further encourage teachers and students to continue to make sacrifices and commitments that won and distinguished the state with awards at national and international competition. Governor T.A. Orji pledged to intensify the legacy projects by embarking on Educational infrastructure, support the creative and dependable activities of teachers and teaching there by leaving no stone unturned and no school unreached in ensuring quality service delivery are maintained in classrooms. The Governor represented by his Deputy Sir Emeka Ananaba commended the Ministry of education for working assiduously to re-engineer and improve quality education as can be seen in the elimination of examination malpractices in our schools and the state winning a meritorious award of excellence in Abuja for inculcating examination ethics and eliminating exam malpractices in Abia Schools. He also lauded the performances of Abia School children and teachers that won the first position in national competition, excellence award in universal basic education and warned those involve in diverting books donated to school children free of charge to be sold in the open market to desist from such action or face government actions. In her speech, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of education Mrs. Victoria Chigbu named the Educational Activities projects that will be flagged off to include computer for all teachers in the state, school on air program, read campaign project, distribution of exercise books and presentation of awards to support the education friendly policy of governor T.A.Orji. Stating that Abia state is among the few states that have started the implementation of entrepreneurship trade subjects and will present candidates in 2014 WASSCE, NECO Examinations. Similarly, the Chief Executive Officer I. T and C network Mr. Nnamdi Nnoruka while donating some computers for the programme said the gesture will encourage teachers and students to be computer literate in line with the transformation agenda. The ceremony featured presentation of certificates, computers, books to students and teachers.
