Teaching Love “One day the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) went out and entered the Masjid with Abu Bakr and Umar (radi Allahu anhuma), one on his right hand and the other on his left, holding their hands. Then he said, ‘We will be raised thus on the Day of Resurrection.’” [Sunan Tirmidhi] Imam Malik bin Anas (rahimahullah) said: The Salaf would teach their children the love of Abu Bakr and Umar (radi Allahu anhuma) just as they would teach them a Surah from the Quran. How do you teach love? This is not something wondrous. Even the most illiterate person knows how love is taught! A little girl had heard a great deal about her grandfather. When she got older her mother told her that she would not be able to see her grandfather since he had passed away before she was even born. The little girl cried piteously, such was the love that she had developed in her heart for a person she had only heard about and never seen. Could that mother then not teach her daughter how to love the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) and the extraordinary people around him? Familiarize yourself and your family with the people worth knowing about, the people whom Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) vouched for in the Quran!
