Teaching an athlete to put force into the ground and push is very - TopicsExpress

Teaching an athlete to put force into the ground and push is very important in developing the skills of speed and acceleration. This movement pattern also prevents athletes from overstriding and pulling hamstrings. This drill Band Resisted Foot Strikes is a great way to develop this movement pattern as well as progressively overload it with bands. Here are the cues: 1. Stand tall, core tight (to get the athlete extend through the base leg and maintain a stable core) 2. Knee up, heel to the butt, toe to the shin (to create a compact and loaded leg cycle) 3. Push the ground back (to emphasize a foot strike slightly behind the center of gravity with the ball of the foot) 4. Rip the arm action, drive the elbow back (to coordinate the arm action with the leg cycle) (PS- The band is slightly difficult to see in the video. It is attached above to a pull-up bar and wrapped around the midfoot of the raised leg) If you like this drill and want to see more like it, make sure to Like this page and Share with others who may benefit.
