Team Nepals performance at the T20 Cricket World Cup 2014 has created hopes in the hearts of many Nepalese children envisioning a common dream to play for Nepal one day. It is the first step of Nepals destiny in international cricket! Sadly, there are many children who can never realise this dream simply because they are concealed against their will at various orphanages in Nepal. If not intervened, these children will never see a single ray of hope. Many of these homes advertise through websites that they are orphanages housing poor, disadvantaged, abused and neglected children but in reality they have been stolen from families on promise of education and instead exploited for profit. Unfortunately the establishment and operation of many of these children’s homes has become a moneymaking enterprise for the enrichment of children’s home proprietors. Some of these proprietors work with child traffickers, who coerce poor and vulnerable families from village communities with a promise of a nice place to live and a good education for their children. They are given misinformation to send their children with traffickers, sometimes their own relatives, to school in Kathmandu. We are working very closely with the Government of Nepal & the National Child Protection Alliance to develop and fund a new children’s home monitoring system. We are undertaking to advance the future of Nepal through ensuring that children are free to grow up in families, attend school, in a society that values them and respects their rights. Please see a detailed report of our recent operation against Happy Home orphanage in Lalitpur.
