Teams from Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Arkansas will compete in the 2nd Annual Red Stick Rumble Robotics Festival and Competition at Woodlawn High School on Saturday, August 30 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The school is located at 15755 Jefferson Highway. The competition consists of large and small-sized robots engaged in separate events in the gymnasium and cafeteria, where the dexterity and precise maneuverability of the student-created machines will be judged. Sponsored by the Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System, the Albemarle Foundation, NASA and Andymark, the event is part of a larger effort to increase robotics programs in schools. Robotics programs incorporate aspects of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in the design, construction and operation of the robots as a practical application of these areas of study. Many local teachers receive training at Carnegie Mellon University’s Robot Academy in Pittsburgh, PA through grants from organizations like the Albemarle Foundation. The Red Stick Rumble at Woodlawn High School is open to the public, and includes prizes, food and lots of fun.
