Even though “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” was their 9th single, Tears for Fears were relatively unknown in the U.S. Before the end of the year, they would be considered a mainstream success, with a #1 album, Songs from the Big Chair, and three Top 10 hits. “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” was almost not recorded, as Roland Orzabal felt that it didn’t fit in with the other songs on the album.
