Tears, anger as two pupils killed by FRSC driver are buried Tears, sorrow and anger reigned as the Ndigbo community in Bayelsa State yesterday buried the remains of two primary school pupils killed last week Friday by an overspeeding Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, patrol driver. As the bodies of the victims were being moved to Mbiano, Imo State, from the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, there was palpable anger as the people accused the FRSC of poor handling of the investigation into the killing. The deceased pupils, simply identified as Rose, a sixyear old girl and Wisdom, a four-year old boy, were last Friday crushed by the patrol vehicle during a hot pursuit of a tricycle operator, popularly known as Keke NAPEP. The Ndigbo community in the state described the setting up of an investigative committee as provocative and vexatious. National Mirror stated that a prominent Igbo trader, Peter Mbushi, said that though investigation would not bring back the deceased pupils, the actions of the FRSC and nonchalant attitude towards the deceased families was pitiable. He said: “They have not even visited and showed remorse. Instead they are setting up an investigative panel. The members of the patrol team should have been detained while investigation continues.” Meanwhile, the state FRSC Commander, Vincent Jack, has expressed regret over the incident and announced the setting up of an investigative panel to unravel the circumstances surrounding the accident. “The corps marshal and chief executive of the FRSC has directed that a high powered inquiry should be set up. We are going to hear from all the parties, the Keke NAPEP union, the driver, the only surviving child in the accident and the people around so as to get to the root of the matter. “We will not at any point in time mortgage our image. We are well-trained; we know what resources the Federal Government has committed to keeping this corps,” he said. The FRSC boss also appealed to all road users to be calm and allow the investigation to take place, stressing that any person found culpable would be penalised.
