I didn’t know why, but I felt empty, and in a strange way, I missed him already. Until…I turned to see him right in front of my face. “Ha…you turned,” he gloated. “That means you missed me.” He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and smacked my back as if we were long lost buddies at a reunion. I did not miss him anymore. “Get off me.” Shoving, I let my expression show him how annoyed I was. “You can say or do whatever to me, but I know you missed me. You missed me…you missed me…you missed me,” he sang repeatedly. “Listen…I’m not going to be nice next time. You see this?” I showed him my fist. “It’s going right to your face…got it?” That stopped him right away. He backed away and I could tell from his facial expression that he was hurt. That made me close my eyes for a second, but it was long enough for him to disappear. I was about to apologize. Now I felt awful. As I continued to trudge forward, his words were breaking through to me: “When you concentrate on being good, the wanting to be bad fades away. Concentrate on doing good for others and I promise you…your heart will start to mend. Maybe not right away, but in time your heart will be filled with so much love that you won’t even remember why the pain was there in the first place.” I don’t know how long I was on the road; I just knew I had to go back, at least to apologize; or maybe that was just an excuse.
