Technological advancement is the only salvation of Muslims! -Khalaf Al-Harbe Okaz Reports were recently published on the potential of licensing cinemas and opening movie theaters in the Kingdom. However, these should not even remotely insinuate that cinemas will one day be a reality in this country. There are many reasons for this far-fetched idea and the most eminent of which is the fact that logic and common sense does not take precedence over sheer obstinacy in our society. You can put forth the logical argument that having a controlled environment for screening censored movies is better than obligating people to watch movies in censored or uncensored channels on TV or on the Internet. But your efforts will be rendered fruitless as stubborn forces operate on the aim of achieving opposition and perversity against delusionary opponents. These forces are fueled by negative individuals in society chanting phrases like “Are we done with all of our problems to discuss having a cinema?” What is the solution for this situation? The solution here is for the developed world to unintentionally invent a new technology replacing the role of the cinemas so that they become an ancient heritage of mankind. Only then will we be allowed to have cinemas and movie theaters for singles and families. It is the only way to be relieved from arrogant aggressors. Such was the case with VCR stores as they were burned down by conservatives until there was no longer a need for it. Today the world is working on replacing cashiers with automatic checkout machines with which the customer can purchase and pay for items and get change back. But Saudi Arabia is discussing the validity and moral standing of women working as cashiers when the reality of the matter is much simpler. All what women wanted was to be financially independent and have a decent job. Society did not pay heed to the conservatives and their allegations against the issue, but was resigned to chanting the phrase, “Are we done with all of our problems to discuss women working as cashiers?” The same could be said on the issue of women driving, as many countries have successfully invented driverless cars with an automatic drive feature. Research on the invention will surely continue and it won’t be long before we see commercialized releases of the invention. Our conservatives will still be debating the matter, disregarding the clear religious verdict in support of women driving themselves than being in a car with a strange man for a driver. And as always, no one will throw the blame at those conservative minds for hindering the flow of Saudi history. All what people will be resigned to doing is repeating the phrase “Are we done with all of our problems to discuss women driving?” Our problems will never see an end and no one will ever answer our calls. Advancement and development is today in the hands of technology and the developed world. Let it continue to advance without letting such futile issues stand as detrimental decisions on the growth of its societies. This is how it will progress, this is how it will innovate, and this is how it will unintentionally solve our problems. Comments: KSA is a very sad country when it comes to considering womens rights or planning for the future. When the mind is archaic and cannot or will not look to the future you will always be playing catch up. The solution is to change the mindset of muslims who interpret their religion to the extreme, what is wrong with cinemas and what is wrong wiith women driving? saudigazette.sa/index.cfm?method=home.regcon&contentid=20141102223034
