Technology held the promise to make our lives so much easier. We could get the same amount of work done with only a fraction of the labor force. Instead of giving people more leisure time and distributing the remaining labor among everyone we continued at full time production, obsoleted ourselves, and made the majority of people dead weights instead of assets ~ always filtering the profits upward into fewer and fewer hands. // What this documentary fails to mention is that there is a reciprocal need on the part of manufacturers for customers. If you arent paying people and only investing in robots then no one can afford your wares. So neither the present model nor a world of robot commerce is sustainable at all. We need to let go of the capitalist economic model (or very seriously revise it) before we impoverish and starve masses of people for no reason other than our inability to relax, slow down, and find a new way to distribute resources fairly.
