Ted Cruz - Net Neutrality is Obamacare for the Internet How has this man remembered how to breathe this long. Do yourselves a favor and read up about why Net Neutrality is a necessary thing. Understand that, even for those that arent fans, Obama requesting that the FCC treats the Internet as a Title 2 utility is a VERY good thing. ISPs and cable providers already have essential monopolies by blocking entrants to the market. Allowing the FCC to institute the so called Internet Fast Lanes is going to block new entrants into almost every sector that relies on the internet for growth. For all the Senators and Representatives that claim that Net Neutrality is a bad thing, take a very close look at who is lobbying them and where theyve gotten their money. They are paid mouthpieces for industries that already have us bent over a barrel. Compares to nearly every other modernized country, the average internet in the US is expensive and slow. Why? No competition. Most folks will have at most 3 options for internet: whoever provides your cable, DSL (phone), or Satellite. Cable is the only technology capable of remotely decent speeds so 98% of Americans have exactly ONE real choice for internet. They have no motivation to give you decent service (look at the Comcast nightmares) or to upgrade their networks. Without Net Neutrality you will very likely have to pay for your base internet, and then pay additional for decent connection speeds to your favorite sites. Like Social Networking? Thats going to be an additional $5 a month. Want to watch Netflix at $8 a month? Its going to cost you an additional $10 a month for a decent connection for streaming video. Youll be lucky to not see your internet bill climb an additional $30 a month for the same connection you already have. The alternative? Online entities like Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Netflix, or an other site you can think of will have to start charging their users additional fees. The millions of dollars a year that they already pay for their ability to provide you content will double, maybe triple. That money has to come from somewhere? Want to start a business selling products online? Amazon will be paying millions a year for users to be able to access their site properly. Can you pay to have those same exceptional speeds? When a user loads your page to buy whatever gizmo youre selling and the graphics are still loading 10 seconds later, do you think their going to wait for you? No, their going to point their browsers to a site that can afford to earn their business. So you explain to me how Net Neutrality is like Obamacare. I would love to hear your reasoning.
