Ted Cruz Files Amendment to Immigration Bill – Allows States to Require ID Before Voter Registration Posted by Jim Hoft on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, 7:23 AM In a sane world this would fly right through the senate. But Democrats can’t cheat so easily with an ID law so they’ll vote this down immediately. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) filed an amendment to the immigration bill last night that will allow states to require an ID before registering voters. The Blaze reported: Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Monday announced his intention to file another amendment to the so-called “gang of eight” immigration bill that is facing tough opposition from some GOP lawmakers. “I’ll file amendment to immigration bill that permits states to require ID before registering voters & close this hole in [federal] statutory law,” Cruz wrote via his official Twitter account. Cruz has consistently opposed the immigration bill, voting against its advancement in the Senate three times and has shown no signs of flipping on the legislation. Cruz previously attempted to amend the bill to remove the path to citizenship provisions for illegal immigrants. As previously mentioned, the Texas Republican’s latest amendment would require states to require ID before registering voters.
