Teddy bear hospital COMMITTEE ELECTION are NEXT TUESDAY the 11th March at 6:15pm in the Wolfson common room. We are looking for: 2X presidents 2X vice presidents 2X secretaries 2X schools liaison reps 2X publicity reps 2X training day reps 2X workshop reps 1X treasurer 1X dental rep All you need to do is email brumteddies@gmail with the position you want to apply for and 100 words saying why you would be good at it. On the election day, we will ask you to sum up in 60 seconds why you think you are suitable for the position. Here is what this years committee had to say about their roles: SCHOOL LIASON REP: My role is to contact schools/childrens centres/libraries and organise dates and venues where the TBH clinics can be run. You have to ensure whether CRB certificates are needed, and negotiate the number of children per clinic, for example. The job is enjoyable, in the respect that you can build a rapport with school staff and it is always lovely to know that they highly appreciate the running of the clinics. WORKSHOP REP: Ordering and updating equipment and resources for the TBH clinics e.g. stickers, toothbrushes. Leading TBH clinics at schools on Wednesday afternoons, and providing new ideas for workshops or teaching during the clinics. SECRETARY: Secretary involves emailing members about upcoming clinics and selecting members to attend each clinic. Taking minutes at the committee meetings and distributing them to committee members afterwards, as well as answering general enquiries and miscellaneous jobs such as booking rooms in the medical school. You need to communicate regularly with the rest of the committee and answer email queries from members. You are always involved but can be a hard work and requires a lot of organisation skills. PUBLICITY REP: My role as a publicity rep included regularly posting in the medsoc bulletin, medsoc freshers facebook page and also posting updates on the TBH facebook page. I replied to messages on the tbh page, made leaflets for the training days and saturday library clinic. I also made posters advertising the events which I would stick up around med school. TREASURER: As the treasurer of TBH, I had a watchdog role over all aspects of financial management, working closely with other members of the Management Committee to safeguard the societys finances. A few of the responsibilities involved include: Collecting subscriptions and all money due to the club, paying the bills and recording the information, keeping up-to-date records of all the financial transactions, ensuring that all funds are spent properly and reporting regularly to the committee on the club’s financial status. TRAINING DAY REP: It requires training the new recruits by delivering a presentation at the teddy bear hospital training day in October and continuously providing support and advice to the them throughout the year at the various clinics. Its fun and great for those who love presenting and public speaking! DENTAL REP: Involves getting dental more involved by advertising in dental hospital and being able to answer any of their queries. Teddy bear Hospital has a dedicated dental hygiene station, so its good to get dental students involved. VICE PRESIDENT: The role of the VP is to support the presidents with managerial tasks, to help out the committee in any roles that may need more help and ensure the smooth running of the clinics. PRESIDENT: the best thing about teddy bear hospital is that with the weekly clinics the society is active throughout the year. the requires the need for 2 presidents to work together. Organising the training day, getting committee members to run the clinics as well as organising the library clinic and new initiatives like Brownies group are part of the job. As a MedSoc Charity it also involves being in touch with other charities and giving presentations to them regarding our progress and work. As president you are responsible for overseeing everything from the equipment that it bought, to the money being spent, to running the occasional clinic or two.
