Teekay Akin shared a post on the Odua peoples Assembly, and several times I do come across the Republic of Biafra, MOSSAB and other groups that are bend on either reconstructing Nigeria or breaking away from the seemingly failing federation. Yet when I look at the North I get confuse, what are the Northerners doing? The predominantly Muslim region has identified itself with the Ummat al Muslimin, the supra-national community of Muslims and hence has never fully identified with Nigeria in its true sense. We basically always see ourselves as Muslims and islamic first, and Nigerians second, of less importance ofcourse. This fact and the teachings of Islam has made us a confuse and lost people. We have a very loose idea of nationhood and Nationalism, We have lost all ethnic cohesion (two incompatable religious doctrines have Balkanized us), we have lost our Culture and History, we have never understood or accepted our position in Nigeria. So sad to still see my people unaware of the great change befalling Nigeria. Our heads are in High Heavens or buried in the sands of Arabia. Whatever it is, its time to wake up. Its a long subject, a long essay but the solution is simple and almost impossible: throw away Islam and wake up from the superstitious dreams of belonging to the Arab world. Find a way to survive without Nigeria. I agree it is almost late, with our level of illitracy, Boko Haram, poverty and acute under development, still I say we can painfully but surely make it.
