Teens always want to fit in and feel like they’re in touch with - TopicsExpress

Teens always want to fit in and feel like they’re in touch with what’s going on around them. I remember trying to relate to the latest cars (I never cared for “souping” them up) and the newest songs, even though I liked jazz and classical better. So it makes me wonder where I’d been when I came across this tidbit: On this day, 1958 Georgia Gibbs sang her hit song, “The Hula Hoop Song” on the Ed Sullivan Show. I’ve never heard of her or the song. Georgia’s big hit is well-known to me: “If I Knew You Were Coming I’d ‘ve Baked a Cake”, but it turns out most of her “hits” were cover tunes. Teresa Brewer beat her to the punch on the Hula Hoop number by hitting the stores in April of that year. I’m still not sure how Georgia slipped by me, but after hearing the Hula Hoop Song I have no problem about having missed that. It’s stupid. I’m sharing it with you because I know you all want to hear it. youtube/watch?v=onVcrnYqoTQ
