Teens often drive older cars due to cost or receiving the car as a “hand-me-down” but often these cars lack the improved safety features of newer models and are not the best choice for inexperienced drivers. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that 48 percent of teen drivers 15-17 who were fatally injured in car crashes were driving cars at least 11 years old.
