Tell Jeff McCloys Media Team Weve Had Enough of his Spin! The (Ex) Lord Mayor has bought our city’s evangelists and compromised our politicians, but Jeffs stint in council has not been so generous to our community. The repeated mantra from the McCloy era of NCC was were broke; we need to find savings. Lifeguards at beaches, war memorial services, council pool privatizations, the Loft youth venue and the scuttled Art Gallery redevelopment are the big losers in Jeff’s miserly, penny-pinching legacy of the previous two years. Yet the recent media coverage of the ICAC proceedings have given the Lord Mayor a profile of a benevolent giver. The media have enjoyed highlighting the controversial bags of money, the ATM comment and his high-rolling raffle ticket purchases. All this may leave us with the impression that he spent big as a generous Lord Mayor. The above mentioned community groups would find it hard to agree with that profile. The McCloy era of council was very much an era of austerity. Now more than ever, the community is aware that spin doctors are employed to try and change history and sway public opinion.
