Tell you what, if the minimum wage gets raised to $15 for FLIPPING A BURGER then I might quit working as a Paramedic. Who would want to obtain and maintain multiple certifications and constantly go to Continuing Education classes (at my own cost) a year? Be responsible for someones life, for knowing drug calculations, physiology, anatomy, and cardiology? Why should they when just as much could be made (and in some places MORE) for simply making a shake and fries? Would YOU got to school for up to two years to make as much as some entry level high school kid? This applies for not just paramedics, but to any job requiring more than the ability to walk in off the street and do it. There is a need for these jobs, but not at $30K a year ($15 x 40 hours x 50 weeks). Dont let egalitarian feel-good emotions control common sense. Either deny this ridiculous idea OR ensure commensurate pay increases for anyone who holds a job with actual responsibility.
