Temperatures have soared into the 70s the last two days in more than 20 Minnesota communities. University of Minnesota Extension climatologist Mark Seeley says these are the highest temperatures for October 23 and 24 since 1998 for many. Moorhead reached 72 degrees Thursday, just one degree shy of the record. Browns Valley and Milan reached 74 degrees, with afternoon humidity values only ranging from 20 to 30 percent. The Minnesota State Climatology Office reports that over 17 percent of the state is now designated as abnormally dry by the US Drought Monitor. Most of that expansion is in northwestern and north-central Minnesota counties.
