Temple of Siti I at Abydos (2).. It should be mentioned that the cult of Osiris declaimed during the Graeco-Roman period, when the seat of Osiris worship was shifted to Bigeh island and that of Isis to Philae Island. and that was done in an attempt to break the power of the wealthy and influential of the priesthood of Abydos. thus the cult of Isis outrivaled that of Osiris consequently Philae became the most holey place in Egypt and the center of the most popular cult as well. In fact during Graeco-Roman reign Abydos was regarded as a place of healing. Sufferers from all Graeco-Roman world gathered in the corridors and halls of the temple of Siti I, making humble pleas for health and fertility, the graffiti in Hieratic ( an other font of ancient Egyptian letters), Greek, Phoenician and Aramaic. when Christianity spread over upper Egypt, the temple of Siti I was used by early Christians as refuge place when escaped from persecution of tyrant Roman rulers, wherever two ancient structures were used for that and the monastery of St. Moses was built to the north of the area..... elshamstravel
