Temporarily holding traffic for Burning Man Participants The Nevada Highway Patrol with other agencies assisting is temporarily holding the Burning Man participants from entering this event due to rain that has made it difficult for vehicles to travel into the Playa. We are requesting that participants do not try and travel out to the Burning Man area until notified that the roads will be open and passable. Because SR 447 the Highway to Gerlach is only one lane in each direction and with limited parking we are diverting traffic to the Fernley area, and Wal Mart is offering for the participants to utilize their parking for the night. The Pyramid Lake camp grounds has also offered to utilize their camp ground area and selling permits for $9.00 per night. For the participants that have not left or are driving to the event the Reno/Sparks area offers overnight stay and accommodations. At this time we are not sure when the roads will be open, as this will be determined from the weather that we have through the tonight and tomorrow. We encourage everyone to utilize the Burning Man Web Site for updates and they also have a tweeter page. Residence of Gerlach and that area will be allowed to travel on the highway with proper identification. Safety is our number one goal for everyone to attend the Burning Man Event with minimal delays.
