Temporary, Part-Time (25% of Full Time) Department/Program: Fine Arts Subject Area: FINA2195 Description of Position: West Coast Aboriginal Carving Required Qualifications: The applicant should satisfy at a minimum the following criteria: Masters in Fine Art or its equivalent*. Preference will be given to an applicant considered to be a Master Carver by their community with a minimum of five years experience teaching traditional Aboriginal carving. Teaching experience may include mentorship and teaching in community. Applicants require a portfolio showing a maximum of 25 images with a minimum of 10 images showing a range of carvings rooted in Aboriginal culture and traditions. Applicants with experience with other traditional Aboriginal medio and/or experience in general with drawing, sculpture, ceramics, painting, design or printmaking should include examples. The applicant must demonstrate how they will source the materials and tools required to teach the course. The successful candidate will be required to build the course content in consultation with the Department Chair, and must demonstrate during the interview that they are able to do so. This position required a person who has deep knowledge and understanding of West Coast Aboriginal traditions *equivalent to be defined. Length of appointment: May 1, 2015 – June 30, 2015 Start Date: May 1, 2015 Salary Range: Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
