Temporary Research Associate Position Job Description: Grassroots Collaborative is composing a report looking at the impact of Downtown Chicago job growth in the metropolitan region and the economic condition of the city’s neighborhoods. One aspect we are looking at in particular is the benefit that suburbs have enjoyed during Downtown’s growth as compared to Chicago neighborhoods. This position would be part of a team of researchers putting together other social and economic demographic data for a white paper that will be published in the fall and will regularly report to the Communications and Research Coordinator of the Grassroots Collaborative. Previous experience with Census and LEHD data is not required – training and orientation to the data will be provided. Candidates must have strong working knowledge of Excel. Duration: Due to the scope of the project, this position is temporary (requires overall roughly 40 hrs of work, with a deadline of deliverables on Aug 5th) Responsibility: Using extracted data from the Census to compose new tables to create an analysis of change over time for four Chicago suburbs Conducting basic analysis of median, average, sum on data sets to recognize patterns in growth or decrease of a local area’s employment in Chicago’s Downtown Double checking data and reporting findings at Research Team Check-ins Knowledge & Skills: Thorough experience in Microsoft Excel, such as creating equations in cells and working with subsets of data High attention to detail Experience in working with large data sets to extract specific sets Ability to meet tight deadlines Compensation: $12/hour Grassroots Collaborative is an equal-opportunity employer.
