Tempted “Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.” Mark 4:38 (KJV) Getting married doesn’t cure problems with lust. Cutting up all of the credit cards doesn’t cure overspending. Getting a gym membership doesn’t cure problems with overeating. Nor does putting scriptures all over the house cure problems with anger and rage. While being human explains the cravings of our flesh, it does not excuse giving in to them. Not when we have been washed by the blood of Jesus, are new creatures in Christ and have the greater One living on the inside of us. We must remind ourselves daily that we are no longer who we once were. We have been made holy and righteous and whatever we feel we can’t do, God gives us the strength to do. He helps to protects us. He helps protect our witness to others. He helps to protect our example to the unbeliever, but it takes us watching, being discerning and praying. When you pray, you are reminding yourself of who God is and who you are in Him. You are actively surrendering to Him and this gives His strength access into your life. When you watch, you are not ignorant of Satan’s devices and can see him a mile away and are discerning of his schemes to get you to fall. Our flesh may be weak, but our spirit can be much stronger when we do what Jesus commands us to do. Prayer: Father, I yield to You right now and I receive Your strength and power. Help me stay watchful and discerning. Thank You for renewing my mind and helping me understand who I am in You and who You are in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen. (Read James 1:12-15) S
