Ten Books (Day V) Hey you. You look sullen, can we talk? You are not answering, but you know what, I will just get on with it. Truth be told I wanted to skip today, I mean it is just five days and I’m already fidgeting. But glory be told to God, I am going to produce my 200 words today as promised . Let’s join the trending dance. Ten books that have stayed with me. 1- Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. Read when I was 14, it influenced my journey into the colourful world of AWS. 2- The Accidental Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid . Bought and read in Aba, definitely my book of the year 2012. I love the unique narration style, and how the author makes you laugh, cry and ponder at every other page. 3- Mine Boy by Peter Abrahams. An unforgettable book about human struggle, solidarity in the face of persecution and the infiniteness of human cruelty. Published in 1946 I read my dad’s copy in 2006. 4- The Road by Wole Soyinka. Attempted to read couple of times during my teenage years, made absolutely no headway. I tried again when I was 22 and I just couldn’t stop laughing, the Professor is probably one of the most memorable characters ever. 5- The Man Died by Wole Soyinka. Staggered through this many years ago, like many Soyinka’s books I just couldn’t penetrate it. Read it again last year, and I loved every single sentence in the book. Of course, I sobbed at some points, it is difficult to read Soyinka’s vivid description of prison life with a dry face. The remaining five? Oh? Tomorrow. Be here early.
