Ten Commandments of Barima Antwi. (Lessons from his life and story) Barimah Antwi was devastated when he lost one arm in a motor accident. After ten years, of suffering the trauma and social consequences of being an amputee, he set up the Physically Challenged Action Foundation that now owns two training and rehabilitation centres in Offinso equipping physically disabled persons with sewing, carpentry, leather works, shoe-making, tie and dye, and livestock farming. The foundation provides graduate students with tools, equipment and machines of their areas of training and seed money of about GH¢500.00 per student. The centres have so far graduated over 500 physically challenged who are now in income generating jobs, and are even training able-bodied persons. Barima Antwi shared an amazing story on Joy FM tonight. I share the top ten lessons in our 10 Commandments segment. 1. Do Something about the things you feel strongly about. He set out to help young unemployed people using sports as a medium. 2. Society can be very cruel when you suffer adversity. People urged him to commit suicide and urged his wifes family to take their daughter back because he could possibly be impotent. 3. Share your vision with stakeholders. He convinced his wife to leave her job and join him in the vision. 4. Start with a little seed. His wife invested her one sowing machine at the onset. 5. Create awareness about your work. He got several foreign partners interested by sharing his story and inviting them to the centres. 6. Do Something. Instead of complaining about how unfair the world is, do something to change the status quo. 7. Faith in God is essential. 8. Refuse to accept the testimony of people who see no good in you. 9. Have compassion on people with physical challenges. You may never when you may have to deal with a personal handicap. 10. Be passionate about your vision. Barima exudes infectious passion wherever he goes. You can reach and support Barima and the Physically Challenged Action Foundation on +233-244 948170 or +233-208441974 e-mail them at pcaf1988@yahoo.
