Ten radiation treatments to go! Its amazing how quickly the first 18 treatments went by. Im so thankful for the gift of caring medical professionals. I have had so many throughout this year. It means so much when one calls me by name and really, really listens to my story and my complaints and my thanksgiving. I have had the greatest of doctors and nurses and technicians. I know I am only a part of their daily work, yet it seems that God has placed in my journey only caring and capable personnel who seem truly interested in me and my well-being. I have acquired a first-name relationship with some with them even knowing me as Wendy instead of just my legal name of Barbara. Dr. Halbrook takes time to sit down beside me and open my chart to explain test results and my progress and answer all my questions ( sometimes Ive had pages of questions). He hugs me when I cry and rejoices with me when the news is good. He has always been reassuring and encouraging. Dr. Billups, III is competent, matter of fact, prompt, and also takes time to sit down and answer my questions. Other doctors and medical personnel have commented on the outstanding job he did with my surgery. Dr. Lee Thornton gave me the confidence and reassurance I was lacking before surgery. Kind receptionists have assisted me all along the way. The nurses who administered the chemotherapy were kind and personable. One of the nurses who cared for Robert when he had his pacemaker replaced even sent me a get well card during surgery recuperation. The kind women at For Ladies Only helped me to feel special and almost normal. While there is so much wrong with our world, there are still good people doing good things to help others feel good. I savor this gift of good caring medical professionals.
