Ten years. It seems, simultaneously, a long time and a VERY SHORT time to me as I sit next my personal physical manifestation of that period. Ten years ago today, I was holding her in my arms, a yawning, squirming, pink thing with bright and somber eyes; they were eyes that seemed to belong to a much older soul. Now, Im sitting beside her helping her set up her first lap top. This is a parents perception of Time. We see ten years compressed into a single moment. It is a blessing and a curse. Today, my oldest, my Madeliene turns the big double digits. Im exceptionally proud of the person shes becoming: intelligent and sensitive, witty and creative, resilient and confident. She is her own person and yet she is also MY person; the person I helped to build and insert into this world. While I can wait to see what the next ten years will bring I know it will pass in a moment. Its a blessing and a curse. Happy birthday, My Madeliene. Daddy loves you.
