Ten years ago I worked on a big budget feature that I was unceremoniously fired for because of office politics. I was 23 years old and did not understand why people made decisions that did not serve the group but only satisfied their ego. I was shocked when I got fired. I mean I had worked hard, played nice with others and gave it everything I could possibly give. When I heard the news I cried because I had given so much. I thought once you give it your all something had to come back to you. It didnt--or so I thought. There was a costume designer by the Rita Ryack who upon hearing the news pulled me aside and told me something I have never forgotten. It may seem trite but she said to me- Never forget what you are worth and honey you are worth a heck of a lot This is only a movie with a bunch of screwed up people.. That was what I needed to hear--Never forget your worth and never settle for less than you deserve, even when someone tells you that you deserve less. It seems so simple but when you are in the middle of a shitstorm it is a difficult thing to remember.
