Ten years ago, the friendship that I shared with one of my oldest - TopicsExpress

Ten years ago, the friendship that I shared with one of my oldest friends was lost over the re-election of George W. Bush. This friend (a life-long Democrat) and I had made a bet on Bush v. Kerry, and he took Kerrys loss incredibly hard. The day after the election, as he was expressing his incredulity that Bush had not only won, but had gained millions of votes between 2000 and 2004, I had the temerity to suggest that a John Kerry presidency would have been an unmitigated disaster. He hung up on me as a result of that gallish suggestion. We saw each other in person only once after that, and had, perhaps, one or two other phone conversations. We are seeing shades of the unmitigated disaster that could have been play out right now in the Middle East. I am not one to say I told you so. I am, however, angered enough by the amateurish buffoonery of our current Secretary of State that I do feel compelled to remind people--this man could have been our President, and to my pro-Israel friends on the left, that elections matter, very much. Blind faith to party, to the point where friendships are destroyed, must come to an end.
