Ten years ago today, I received a phone call that would change my life forever. My parents called to tell me that my brother had passed away. Less than a week prior, the four of us had spent an amazing Christmas holiday together in San Francisco. He was strong as an ox, happy and healthy. Within a couple days of him returning home to Seattle, he caught a really bad flu bug. He was meant to go to the doctor on Monday, yet passed away that weekend in his sleep. He had gone into a diabetic coma and didnt wake up. I didnt know he had caught the flu. For me, this was the most saddening news and devastating event of my life. I trusted that my big brother was a permanent fixture, non negotiable for all my days on this planet. Many of you in here had the chance to know Jeff and it makes me happy to know that he lives on in your memories and close to your hearts. He was one of the best human beings Ive known, most definitely cut from a premium cloth.... Of course, the apple didnt far fall from the Dan & Diane tree! He was self-LESS and Joy-FULL, lived every day to the fullest, an ambitious dreamer with the best of intentions to make the world a kinder and more loving place. Over these last ten years, the grief has softened and my life keeps getting exponentially better and better. Thank god when grief carves out such deep space that eventually theres an opportunity to fill it back up with MORE love & joy than previously imagined possible! Quite possibly, one of my longest posts here and Ill end by saying... Jeff, we miss you and love you more than words can say. Thanks for ALL the great memories. XO
