Tenino misses out on nearly $10 million in free money from state! The Tenino community lost out on nearly $10 million in free money from the State of Washington to modernize our 37 year old school buildings. Many communities are celebrating the investment they have made in keeping their community an attractive place for young working families to move into. I hope in the future the citizens of the Tenino School District remember that passing a school bond benefits their property value when they want to sell it in the future. Look at what the state announced a few weeks ago. We missed out in Tenino. This would have gone a long ways to help revitalize our community and would have helped businesses and home owners in the long run. From the Washington State Press Release: July 15, 2014 Construction Assistance Awards Announced $213 million to be injected into state economy for local school projects. OLYMPIA — July 15, 2014 — Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn today announced the release of nearly $213 million in capital construction money – made available by the legislature and approved by Gov. Jay Inslee – to school districts throughout the state. The money, coupled with nearly $381 million in local school district funds generally available by capital bonds approved by voters in communities, will bring more than $594 million into the state’s economy through school construction. “I applaud the Legislature and Gov. Inslee,” Dorn said. “They recognize that up-to-date, working buildings are essential to student learning, and that the state has some responsibility in that process.” A total of 21 districts are ready to begin or continue work on 30 new school buildings or school modernization projects. Many factors determined whether a project received funding, including specific school district criteria regarding enrollments, assessed property values and existing facility inventory.
