Tenisha Harris –Winning at Homeownership Tenisha Harris has always worked hard to overcome obstacles. When she became pregnant at 16, she stayed in school and earned a full scholarship to the University of Kentucky. “I’m proof that getting an education and being a homeowner are attainable for anyone who works hard and puts their mind to it,” she said. Tenisha is the recipient of the 2014 Lexington Habitat for Humanity Women Build Sponsorship. The program brings local women together to construct a home for Tenisha and her family. Applicants must live in substandard housing and be able to afford mortgage payments. In addition to teaching and learning building skills, Women Build volunteers are rewarded with the knowledge that they have literally helped build the foundation on which families and communities flourish. Phase III of the build is starting soon. No experience is necessary and all tools and equipment are provided. Contact [email protected] to volunteer. Photo by Michelle Aiello
