Tennis - U.S. OPEN 2013 FYI………… did you know that one of the stadiums in the tennis complex where this tournament is taking place in New York is called the Louis Armstrong Stadium? I couldn’t figure out what the connection was to tennis and all I could surmise was that he lived very close to the stadium for years up until his last days. I ain’t mad at him. Of course the whole complex is named after former women’s’ champ Billie Jean King and the largest stadium there is the Arthur Ashe Stadium. I just finished watching the number two ranked tennis woman, Victoria Azerinka, defeat her opponent. She’s only 24 years of age and get this; at the end of the match she was given a brief interview (internationally televised mind you) where the commentator tried to get her to talk personal about her visit to New York. The commentator suggested some rock group as her favorite but Azerinka told her she was into Motown, which got my attention. She shortly thereafter went up the U.S. television station box and talked to Chris Everett (former U.S. OPEN CHAMP) and one other and she further expounded on her Motown discoveries. I had to put certain comments together and apparently her boyfriend is none other than Barry Gordy’s youngest son, Stefan Kendal Gordy aka Redfoo! This explains her fascination with her recent purchase of all of the Motown greats………. Marvin Gay, Supremes, the Jackson Five etc. She was so cute describing her discoveries like a kid in a candy store. BTW, although she resides in Scottsdale, Arizona, she a citizen of Minsk, Belarus which is near Russia. The U.S. Open suddenly got unusually interesting! I don’t expect her to get past Serena Williams however, who is on fire and by the way, is ranked number one.
