Tent City WILL BE CLOSED DOWN if more people don’t speak up at the city council meeting. I am only one voice. It does not carry any weight. We need numerous people to speak out at the city council meetings on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. You have to sign up to speak after 2pm on the day of the meeting and before 5pm. We need the city to do right by our Homeless Veterans. They are all but ignoring them in hopes they will go away. The city has not picked up the garbage cans in tent city in 6 weeks. They are trying to build a case for eviction. They make it sound like the big fire at Becky’s camp was in tent city and it was 3 blocks away. They have no problem stretching the truth to make a case against our Homeless hero’s. Only by speaking out or obtaining an attorney to file a stay of execution of the order will they be able to remain in the place that so many have used for over 20 years. Tent city was a part of a settlement agreement in a case that was filed by a church on behalf of the homeless when Mayor Spencer raided the homeless camps and tore up all of the tents and ruined all of the homeless belongings in the 90’s. The homeless WON that case and part of the settlement was that the homeless were to be given a place to live which is why Tent City exists. I am no lawyer but if they close tent city it would be in violation of a court ordered settlement. WE NEED TO STAND UP FOR OUR HOMELESS VETERANS. They stood up for us in so many wars to protect our freedoms,,,,,,,,,, what few we have left.
