Tepco announced they postponed removing molten fuel from Reactor 1 - TopicsExpress

Tepco announced they postponed removing molten fuel from Reactor 1 until 2025, whch is 5 years later than planned. Currently Tepco is trying to remove the existing cover, but this is already 6 months behind the schedule. Their delaying the schedule is due to the change of fuel removing process. Originally they planned to remove the fuel from Spent Fuel Pool 1 by transforming the existing cover. In the revised plan, they are to build a new structure over Reactor 1 like Reactor 4. Also, in order to remove the molten fuel, they are to replace the cover again. After all, fuel removal from Spent Fuel Pool 1 is going to be postponed by 2 years, molten fuel removal is going to be postponed by 5 years. However, neither of the state nor the location of molten fuel is verified. They re-scheduled the plan but it is still baseless. Tepco states the entire decommissioning will be still ending in 30 ~ 40 years, but this is also baseless. The actual decommissioning may take over a century.
