Terenure 2 - 1 Booterstown Utd The gaffer returned to a full squad this evening, despite the early mid week kick off in the pouring rain. Following on from last weekend there were a few changes in the line up, Crowley giving a few of the young lads a chance to prove themselves, but also having the stability of the Vet in the back four alongside Captain Keegan, Big Joe Moran, and the returning Gareth Kenny (who’s been released on parole following on from allegations over not holding a valid ginger permit). Crowley’s men lined the team out as follows: GK Scott Tobin RB Ian O Keeffe CB Joe Moran CB Gearoid Keegan LB Gareth Kenny Rw Stephen O’Flynn DM Eoghan O’Malley CM Niall Byrne AM David McKeown LW Shane Regan ST Sam Jackson Sideline : Sean Rossa, Keith Tobin, Jt O’Sullivan, Darragh Lambert, Connor Flynn, Kevin O’Flynn, Or Weisler, Bren Boylan Town started off very positive, ten minutes in it was evident that the away side had a strong foot hold in the game. Sam Jackson doing well to take on a few early shots to warm up his boots. King Rego dominated his wing with Steve O’Flynn taking control on the opposite side, the two wingers reminding the travelling fans of the good aul days. Dave McKeown was having a man of the match performance in the centre and seemed to be involved in every attack. Eoghan O’Malley kept his position very well in his holding role today and also deserves full credit for his work rate out there today, the grass was very wet though and he did manage to pick up a yellow when he slipped into an opposition player early on. The home side game a reminder that they were still at the races thirty minutes in when a long ranged effort bounced off the top of the bar. McKeown was a bit worse for wear after a bad knock that left him partially concussed but after some quick medical treatment he was back on the pitch and Town continued the fight. The majority of possession remained with Town though and confidence was high at half time. Early on in the second half Town had the best chance of the night to take the lead, the ball falling to young Jackson up top and he got a great shot off only to produce a wonderful save from the man between the sticks, Terenure owing huge praise to their keeper for keeping them in the game. The home side went one up against the run of play on the 60th minute with a 50yd chip that caught Scott Tobin off his line, Terenure must have felt like MkDons all of a sudden. Crowley reacted with some rapid changes, replacing the injury concerned Dave McKeown with Jt O Sullivan and making a change in the centre also, Sean Rossa coming on for Niall Byrne. Jt moved out to the wing and King Rego shifted to the centre. The changes proved effective as a reenergised Town pulled one back after ten minutes, a blitzing attack producing a cross from Rego that Sam Jackson managed to chest into the goal in an incredible bit of skill from Towns most attacking players. The gaffer had concerns over the carded Malley as the game was now full throttle and replaced him with Beardy Bren to join Jackson up top, Town switching to a 4-4-2 formation and finished the game out very strong and could have had the winner on two occasions, Jackson again at the heart of the action with a pacey attack accompanied by Jt to his right, Jackson blinded by the lights took the shot on by himself only for the Ternure keeper to come up trumps yet again, a remarkable save that turns ordinary men into heroes. The home side ended the night on a huge high when they converted a corner on the 90th minute, the stream lined CB storming into the box unmarked to land a bullet into the back of the net leaving a distraught town departing Bushy Park empty handed from a game where they could have grabbed all three points. We caught up with David McKeown after the game for a post match interview, he said he was ‘sick as a parrot’ over the result and that ‘it’s obvious we missed Damien Bernes out there today’, good to see bromance is still alive. Niall Crowley will be left with plenty to think about over the next two weeks with a break in fixtures this weekend and a strong sideline who will be fighting for scalps after a bitter result for a club with aspirations to win trophies this year.
