Terex 6800 lattice boom crawler crane ... I have an extreme fascination with construction cranes and there is no shortage of them along the vibrant Metro Transit Green Line corridor. Tower cranes are abundant. But thus is one crane that I am totally mesmerized by day-by-day as it shifts and bops and twists its way around and within the Vikings Stadium constriction labyrinth: the Terex 6800 lattice boom crawler crane. As its name implies it actually mover around the stadium floor on tractor tracks 8 feet wide. It is distinguished from the other cranes by its three booms that are manipulated via cables and pullies (the lattice). It can be configured to lift 600 tons and rise to a height of 700 feet. This will allow the Terex 68000 to lift steel components to the hugest points on the stadium on the west side, which will be 30 stories high, about half the height of the IDS tower. The Terex 6800 was quite impressively visible today as my Green Line train passed by on its way to the Union Depot in St. Paul ... The Bard of Franklin Avenue ...
