Terribly saddened to hear of the sudden death of cricketer and legend Phillip Hughes. A head injury can happen at any time, any place, Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) does not discriminate. Some survive with invisible injuries and some live fulfilling long lives and some we lose suddenly in unfathomable ways. I am an academic ethics advisor on ABI reporting guidelines, some say, a leading expert in the field. My PhD research is in head injuries and the broadcast medias role in reporting it responsibly. I am also a psychologist/journalist. If any news outlets wish to contact me for a statement about Phillip Hughes and/or the matter of brain injuries and to ask about the new journalism app I have invented and am about to release called Mind Your Ethics, (which assists journalists with brain injury reporting ethical processes), please see my staff profile at Griffith University griffith.edu.au/humanities-languages/school-humanities/research/hdr-students/lisa-wilshere-cumming. I am always available for TV and radio discussions on this vulnerable topic and have already appeared on many broadcasts. Im also open - as always - to sharing my own ABI experiences to help others with their battles. A two part TV documentary details my journey too. If anyone is needing support with the news of Phillips sudden passing please contact Lifeline, Brain Injury Australia, Synapse etc. My condolences to Phillip and all the families involved.
