Terror in Paris: World leaders to join mass rally Leaders from across the world will be attending a mass rally in #Paris on Sunday to pay tribute to the 17 people killed in the #terroristattacks that struck the French capital this week. The rally was declared by the Élysée Palaceon Saturday, and will be attended by #French President Francois Hollande along with his predecessor Nicolas Sarkozy. They will march alongside European partners, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister David Cameron and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, and leaders from a number of African countries. French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said, on Saturday, that hundreds of thousands of people are expected in the rally. The government says that it will ensure their safety with extraordinary security measures. More than 3,000 policemen and soldiers, along with snipers, will be deployed in and around Paris. The three-day-long terror ordeal in the French capital has sent shockwaves across Europe. It began with an attack at the headquarters of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday and ended with two separate, but reportedly linked, hostage crises, which left 17 people dead. The police say that three of the four attackers were killed, while one, a 26-year-old woman identified as Hayat Boumeddiene, is absconding. According to the authorities, she was with hostage-taker Amedy Coulibaly, who was killed, during the siege at a kosher market and slipped away unnoticed among fleeing hostages. However, in a surprising turn of events, there are reports suggesting that Boumeddiene wasnt even in France during the attacks. Citing French and Turkish sources, CNN is reporting that she had left France for Turkey in early January. French authorities say that two of the attackers, the brothers Cherif and Said Kouachi, were affiliated with the terror group al-Qaeda in Yemen, which has claimed responsibility for the killings. They have also pointed at evidence that has been uncovered linking the two sieges in the city.
