Interestingly this act almost gives him a saving grace from the grave criminality for which he was branded as a ‘Most-Wanted criminal by the Government. Sabyasachi Panda is a native of Mayurjhalia village in Nayagarh. Here are a few facts about the Maoaist: 1 Sabyasachi Panda was known as Che Guevara of Odisha. 2 According to a mainstream political leader once referred him as the voice of 57 per cent in Odisha, who have only Rs 12 to spend per day. 3 Panda is a mathematics graduate from Puriâ??s Samant Chandra Shekhar Government College. 4 Sabyasachi Panda was expelled from CPI(Maoist) in 2012 after he questioned partys ideology. 5 Post expulsion, he formed a new outfit called Odisha Maobadi Party (OMP). 6 On February 15, fugitive Panda managed to give police, the slip once again after a fire-fight with security forces in a jungle in Odishas Ganjam district. 7 Sabyasachi Panda carries a reward of about Rs 20 lakh on his arrest and is wanted to stand trial in several cases. 8 He is alleged to be the mastermind behind the kidnapping of Italian tour operator Paulo Bosusco and tourist Claudio Colangelo in 2012. 9 He is also one of the prime accused in the August 2008 killing of VHP leader Laxmananda Saraswati in Kandhamal. 10 Panda, was in charge of the outfitâ??s Odisha State committee, and was was termed a renegade by CPI(Maoist) central committee which also said Panda was the most abominable, crooked and betrayed the party revolution. 11 According to reports, Panda 16-page letter to the outfit general secretary Ganapathy and released to the media recently, had the evil intention of liquidating the party and the revolutionary movement.
