Terry Melloy (Marlon Brando) is put to test to come to face his conscience. He has been trying to put it off for few more years, since his professional boxing career came to a halt. Now, amidst the working class of New York harbor, he faces a moral dilemma to confront his conscience. To much is at stake for him, his own brothers life on one hand and his love for Eddie Doyle (Eva Marie Saint) is on the other side. Elia Kazans masterful drama On the Waterfront uses the camera in a traditional linear narrative. However, in this sequence he uses heightened ambient sound to amplify the charged emotion that runs through the center of the story of two lovers.
